In 1974, the Washington State Court Of Appeals returns its verdict in Singer v. Hara. The Singer couple had invoked the prior interracial marriage cases, Perez and Loving, in arguing that they should be allowed to marry. But the Singer court quotes Minnesota’s Baker v. Nelson, saying,

The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely involving the procreation and rearing of children within a family, is as old as the book of Genesis.
